Just for Fun: Ayurveda. if it's good enough for Rocky Balboa, it's good enough for us. We kid, but in truth, Sylvester Stallone is a reported fan of the traditional medicine of India. Apparently it was introduced to him on a movie set in 2009 by an Indian co-star. What's more, the Italian Stallion was so taken by the holistic effects of this all-natural, non-traditional medicine that since that time he's been spreading the word far and wide to many of his famous Hollywood neighbors. And why not? In a city that has seen its fair share of dietary and medicinal fads, Ayurveda is rooted in beliefs that trace their origins back thousands of years on the Indian Sub-continent. The basic principles of Ayurveda can be found in its name, which in Sanskrit means "longevity" (ayus) and science (veda). Overall, balance within the body is emphasized through moderation of such things as sleep, sexual activity, medicine and last but not least, food. The last, food is an important feature in Ayurvedic practice and as such, all herbs and plants are purported to have various uses and characters.
